Jorge

The sarcastic soldier who translates for Anna and is killed by a direct shot from the Predator's shoulder cannon.

Jorge "Poncho" Ramirez (Richard Chaves) is a Chicano member of Dutch's elite rescue team in the 1987 film *Predator*. He speaks fluent Spanish, allowing him to translate for the captive Anna. Though not as physically imposing as his teammates, Poncho is a competent and intelligent soldier with a sarcastic sense of humor, though his composure begins to crumble as the Predator's attacks increase. He is the first to discover Hawkins' remains, and his weapon of choice is a grenade launcher.

Lore & Background

Poncho is the first to find Hawkins' eviscerated body, a discovery that signals the team is being hunted by something far more dangerous than guerrilla forces. He is badly wounded when the Predator shoots a log, causing it to swing and slam into Poncho's waist. Despite his injury, he is carried by Anna and Dutch toward the rescue helicopter. Poncho is the second-to-last team member killed by the Predator, shot in the chest/upper torso by the Predator's shoulder cannon as the others attempt to carry him to safety. Dutch survives to face the Predator alone.

In Their Own Story

The jungle air was thick with tension as Poncho moved through the underbrush, his grenade launcher ready. He was the first to stumble upon Hawkins' remains—a pile of organs and blood that told him their enemy was no ordinary man. Later, as the Predator triggered one of their own traps, a massive tree trunk swung through the air and slammed into Poncho's waist, crushing him. Bleeding and barely conscious, he was carried by Anna and Dutch toward the rescue helicopter. But the Predator was not finished. A plasma bolt struck him in the neck, and Poncho fell silent, the last of Dutch's team to die.

Reader's Guide

Poncho is a supporting character in *Predator* (1987), defined by his role as the team's translator and grenadier. He speaks fluent Spanish, which he uses to communicate with Anna after her capture. His weapon of choice is a grenade launcher, which he uses during the assault on the guerrilla camp. His defining moments include being the first to discover Hawkins' body, which reveals the Predator's method of killing, and his death scene: after being wounded by a falling tree trunk triggered by the Predator, he is shot in the neck while being carried to the helicopter. Poncho is the last member of Dutch's team to be killed by the Predator. Poncho's character arc is one of gradual breakdown—his sarcastic humor fades as the Predator's attacks increase, and his composure crumbles before his death.
